Miami police have a special unit that follows this type of criminal activity against minors and that’s how they were able to find the official at his Miami home, where they found cell phones with pornographic material with children approximately between 3 and 10 years old.
The North Miami Beach deputy city director was arrested Wednesday on charges of possession of child pornography.
David Eugene Scott, 63, faces 15 counts of possession and sexual performance by a minor, according to Miami police, the agency leading the investigation.
Detectives said Scott had uploaded 31 images and videos of child sexual abuse material and attempted to purchase 6,000 videos and photographs of children on the internet through various social media platforms.
Officers from several agencies executed a search warrant at the official’s residence, where they seized his electronic devices containing sexual material with children approximately between 3 and 8 years old.
Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said, “Our Internet Crimes Against Children Special Victims Unit (ICAC) conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of an individual who holds the highest level of a local municipal government. This is very disappointing, especially considering his trusted role and the fact that the victims are children.”
For her part, Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle referred to the arrest saying, “I know that our law enforcement community and my prosecutors are committed to ensuring that no child suffers the denigration, exploitation and abuse that are the basis of every child pornography arrest.”
