Amazon opened a new logistics center in the south of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Located in Homestead, it will employ more than a thousand workers. Currently, it still has hundreds of positions available, with a remuneration of US$17 per hour.
The mayor of Miami Dade, Daniella Levine Cava, celebrated on her official X account (formerly Twitter) the arrival of the company to the county, since it will be “an important local employer” that will have a strong impact on the community because it “reduces travel and stimulates the economy.”
The average salary at Amazon is US$35,479 per year, which is equivalent to an average of US$17 per hour, according to the Talent site. Entry-level positions typically start at a salary of approximately US$32,175 per year, while more experienced workers can reach salaries of up to US$42,897 per year.
The recent opening of Amazon’s mega logistics center in Miami Dade was well received by both the community and its workers. “We are delighted because we can offer opportunities to employees. They can really make a career,” said Amara Redzic, general manager of the Homestead facility, in statements to CBS.
Although the plant has already been inaugurated, there are still hundreds of vacancies to be filled in the new center. In the words of the mayor, the company offers “well-paid” positions, with salaries starting at US$17 per hour. On the other hand, Redzic highlighted the benefits that workers at Bezos’ company have. “401(k) retirement plan, with a 50% contribution from the company, in addition to health, vision and dental care,” she said in statements cited by El Nuevo Herald.
For those interested in joining Amazon, the application process is simple. Candidates can search for job opportunities on Amazon’s job portal, filtering by location, shift and position. Once the vacancy is selected, it is necessary to create an account with an email and a six-digit PIN to access the system.
After verifying the email, a form is filled out with personal and work information. If the applicant’s profile is suitable, Amazon issues a conditional job offer.
The next steps include a background check and scheduling an in-person appointment to finalize the process.
As for the US states where Amazon salaries are highest, Vermont and Washington top the list, with average salaries of US$37,635 per year. Other notable places are South Dakota, New Hampshire and North Dakota, with average salaries ranging between US$36,400 and US$37,440 per year.
Full-time employees, who work between 30 and 40 hours per week, can access a comprehensive health plan, including dental and vision coverage, as well as a 401(k) plan with a 50% company match.
Other benefits include up to 88 hours of paid time off, covering vacation and personal days, as well as paid parental leave. Workers also have access to life, accident and illness insurance, as well as adoption assistance.
