With the five statuettes that “Anora” took home, including Best Picture, Best Leading Actress, Best Director, Best Editing and Best Original Screenplay (the last three won by Sean Baker), the awards ceremony of the 97th edition of the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles came to an end.
The gala had a special sensitivity, due to the proximity of the fires that devastated the host city in early February. The central theme this year was “Celebrating Connection.” During the ceremony there was also a tribute to Quincy Jones and a special mention, before the Memorial, for Gene Hackman, who recently passed away.
The evening had Conan O’Brien as master of ceremonies and a disappointment was the film Emilia Pérez, which had 13 nominations, but only won two: Best Supporting Actress with Zoe Saldaña and Best Original Song, “El Mal”, by Clement Ducol, Camille and Jacques Audiard.
As for the Argentines, this time there were no winners, despite having two nominees in the Best Special Effects category, with Pablo Helman (who appeared to be the favorite) and Nelson Sepúlveda-Fauser. The South American celebration was won by Brazil, with “I’m still here”, which took home the statuette for Best Foreign Film.
