Lady Gaga canceled her concert scheduled for Wednesday night at the Kaseya Center in Miami due to vocal problems.
The decision was made just minutes before the performance and sparked an immediate reaction among attendees already on the stage.
The 39-year-old artist announced the cancellation through a message posted on her official Instagram account.
“Hi everyone, I’m really sorry, but I need to postpone tonight’s show in Miami,” Gaga wrote, explaining the reasons behind the cancellation.
The singer noted that she had experienced pronounced vocal fatigue during rehearsal and pre-stage warm-up: “During rehearsal and during the vocal test, my voice was very tense, and both my doctor and my vocal coach recommended that I not go on stage due to the risks involved.”
The current tour, called “The Mayhem Ball,” is promoting her most recent album, Mayhem, released in March.
Upcoming dates announced on her website include concerts for September 6 and 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“I want to be strong and continue this for you, but I don’t want to risk permanently damaging my vocal cords,” Lady Gaga said in her message.
The 14-time Grammy Award-winning singer added that “the risk is considerable based on my team’s experience with shows of this magnitude, and as you know, I sing live every night, and while it was a difficult and painful decision, I would be more fearful of the long-term consequences to my voice.”
The canceled performance was the third scheduled in Miami, following dates on August 31 and September 1.
Gaga’s entourage reported that the team is working to announce a new date “as soon as possible.”
“I hope you can forgive me and accept my sincere apologies for any frustration or inconvenience,” the pop star said.
She reiterated her message that she felt “very sorry” and expressed her hope that her fans would understand the situation.
Lady Gaga kicked off “The Mayhem Ball” tour on July 16 in Paradise, Nevada, and is scheduled to conclude on January 30 in Tokyo.
