MLS: Without Messi or De Paul, Inter Miami salvaged a point in their visit to Charlotte

Inter Miami drew 0-0 against Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium in a match corresponding to the fourth round of Major League Soccer. The team managed by Javier Mascherano fielded a reserve squad and earned a point in their visit to North Carolina, in a match with few scoring opportunities and marked by squad rotation.

The Herons faced the match without two of their key players: Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul, who were rested with the midweek clash against Nashville SC in mind for the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16. The draw in the first leg led the coaching staff to manage workloads and avoid risks with several starters.

The Florida team made significant rotations and opted for a lineup with ten changes from the previous match. With Luis Suárez as their main attacking threat, the visiting team tried to impose their will at various points in the match, although they lacked the finishing touch to break the deadlock.

During the match, both sides had opportunities. Goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo responded confidently to the home team’s attempts, while goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina also kept the score level with key saves against the visitors’ attacks. In the second half, the introduction of Germán Berterame gave Inter Miami more attacking presence, although the score remained unchanged.

In the final minutes, a peculiar incident occurred: Mascherano received a red card for vehemently protesting to referee Guido Gonzales Jr. With this result, Inter Miami reached seven points and remains in contention in the Eastern Conference, where New York City FC and Nashville SC are currently tied for first place. Now, the team’s focus shifts to Wednesday’s international match, where they will look to advance to the next round.
