Oscar Piastri won the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix and confirmed McLaren’s strong run of form, which also celebrated Lando Norris’ second place. The podium was completed by George Russell in his Mercedes in another forgettable race for Alpine.
The Australian achieved his fourth victory of the season, his third in a row, and leads the World Drivers’ Championship. Meanwhile, the reigning champion, Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), finished in a disappointing fourth place after starting from pole.
Verstappen crossed the finish line ahead of the Williams of Thailand’s Alexander Albon and the Mercedes of young Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
Meanwhile, Ferrari had another disappointing weekend: Monegasque Charles Leclerc finished eighth ahead of his teammate, seven-time English world champion Lewis Hamilton. Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Williams) and Japanese Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull) completed the Top Ten.
As for the Alpine drivers, Australian Jack Doohan retired on the second lap after starting from 14th on the grid, while Pierre Gasly finished 13th. The Frenchman had qualified 18th but ultimately started from the pit lane due to a last-minute suspension modification.
New Zealander Liam Lawson (Racing Bull), Briton Oliver Bearman (Haas), and Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber) also retired from the race at the Miami Gardens International Raceway.
Piastri remains ahead of the 2025 World Championship, now with 131 points, 16 more than Norris. Verstappen completes the podium with 99 points, six more than Russell, who leads Leclerc by 40 points, whose teammate Hamilton (41) is seventh behind Antonelli (48).
The next round of the championship will be the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, which will be held at the Imola circuit on Sunday, May 18.
