A tragedy marred a family New Year’s celebration when Yaneliz Desiree Munguía Baldizón, a 10-year-old Nicaraguan girl from León, lost her life after being hit by a stray bullet in Miami, United States.
The tragic event occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, January 1, 2025, around midnight, at the intersection of NW 27 Avenue and NW 21 Street, in Miami, Florida. The family was in the yard of their house celebrating the end of the year and enjoying the fireworks when Yaneliz was hit by the bullet. The girl suddenly fell to the ground, and upon examination, a hole was discovered on the top of her head due to the shot.
Yaneliz, who had celebrated her tenth birthday on December 26, was quickly transferred to the hospital after the incident. However, despite the efforts of the doctors and the anguished intervention of her parents, who called 911, the girl died shortly after arriving at the medical center.
Authorities have classified the incident as a homicide and are asking for the community’s help in clarifying what happened. The Miami-Dade Police Department has assigned Detective J. Chaidez to lead the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the detective at (305) 471-2400.
