The New York Times has recognized two Miami restaurants as part of the best in America for 2024. La Camaronera, in Little Havana, and Walrus Rodeo, in Buena Vista, are the only representatives from Florida on this prestigious national list, highlighting the growing relevance of the city’s gastronomic scene.
Since 1973, La Camaronera has been a big point in the Little Havana community, offering an authentic fish market and seafood restaurant experience. This family-owned business has won the hearts of locals and tourists alike, thanks to its iconic dishes such as fried shrimp ($13.95) and fried minuta sandwich ($15.95 with a side).
La Camaronera’s fame has transcended the borders of Miami, appearing on television shows such as Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” on the Food Network and Michelle Bernstein’s “Check Please!” on PBS. This media recognition has helped enhance its reputation as a must-try dining destination.
Visitors can enjoy La Camaronera’s cuisine at its location at 1952 W. Flagler St. During the summer, the restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and on Fridays and Saturdays it extends its hours until 8:30 PM.
On the other hand, Walrus Rodeo, opened in 2022 by the owners of the neighboring Boia De, has become a benchmark for culinary innovation in Miami.
The New York Times especially highlighted the mustard greens lasagna ($30), a dish that combines lamb ragout with grana padano and stracchino, exemplifying the creativity and sophistication of Walrus Rodeo’s cuisine. The Infatuation Miami, which named Walrus Rodeo one of Miami’s best restaurants in 2023, recommends the “rodeo za” ($19), a pizza that defies expectations with anchovies, spicy tomatoes, and brown butter with maple syrup.
Located at 5143 NE 2nd Ave, Walrus Rodeo offers a unique dining experience Thursday through Monday, with hours varying by day. Those interested can make reservations to secure their table at this acclaimed establishment.
