Inter Miami CF officially announced the arrival of Cristian “Kily” González as the new head coach of the first team. The Argentine manager arrived in South Florida this Tuesday, completed the necessary paperwork, and signed a contract running through June 2028.
He took to the pitch immediately: González led his first morning training session with the Herons ahead of the Leagues Cup clash against Mexico’s CD Cruz Azul. The match, scheduled for Wednesday night, will mark his official debut on the U.S. club’s bench.
This international fixture represents a key opportunity for Inter Miami, which is looking to add another trophy and solidify its sporting project around world-class stars like Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, amidst high expectations for the franchise.
Kily González’s coaching career began at Rosario Central, where he first managed the reserve team before taking charge of the professional squad. Between 2020 and 2022, he managed 68 matches for the Rosario-based club before moving to Unión de Santa Fe, where he spent three seasons and oversaw 78 official games. His final stint in Argentina was with Platense during the 2025 season.
Before beginning his career as a head coach, González had an extensive run as a professional footballer. He came up through the youth ranks at Rosario Central—known as El Canalla—and made his debut in 1993. After a brief spell at Boca Juniors, he moved to Europe in 1996 to join Real Zaragoza, where he began to establish himself in Spanish football.
His career in Europe included stints at Valencia CF and Inter Milan, where he won major trophies with both clubs. With Valencia, he won the 1999–2000 Spanish Super Cup, while in Italy, he lifted two consecutive Coppa Italia titles (2004–05 and 2005–06) and the 2005–06 Serie A title—achievements that defined his time as a top-class midfielder. At the international level, the former midfielder played 56 matches for the Argentine national team and was part of the squad that won the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics—one of the most memorable milestones of his career. His experience as both a player and a coach now places him before a major challenge: leading Inter Miami at the top level of North American soccer.
