With goals from Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and Luis Suárez, Inter Miami defeated Toronto FC 4-2 at BMO Field in Week 12 of the MLS.
In one of their best performances in recent memory, the Miami team dominated the Canadian side from start to finish. However, they struggled to convert that dominance into goals.
They finally managed to do so at the end of the first half when De Paul stole a free kick from Messi—the usual set-piece taker—but his shot hit the wall. However, the midfielder was fortunate enough to have the rebound fall to him, and, alert, he took a few steps forward and struck it again, this time a volleyed shot across goal to open the scoring.
Inter struck at the perfect moment, going into halftime with a boost of confidence.
This was evident in the second half, when the team in pink finally broke free and began to relentlessly attack their opponent.
Nine minutes in, Uruguayan Luis Suárez extended the lead, capitalizing on a well-placed pass from Messi to finish one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper.
Spaniard Sergio Reguilón also benefited from Messi’s precision, receiving a superb assist that the defender finished brilliantly with a low, driven shot across goal.
Then came Messi’s own goal, a beautiful team move with De Paul, to seal the victory.
Toronto attempted a comeback, but it only lasted until the final score of 2-4.
A good win for Inter Miami, who broke a recent losing streak.
