Miami’s Famous Cuban Bakery Arrives in a New Florida Destination

The first Vicky Bakery store has arrived in the Florida Keys. This iconic Cuban bakery already has 30 locations across the United States. Now, Key Largo residents can also enjoy its classic Latin American delicacies.

Vicky Bakery opened its 30th location in Key Largo. Famous for its pastries, breads, empanadas, sandwiches, and coffees, the brand was founded in 1972 as a family business and expanded throughout Florida. After more than 50 years, it has finally arrived in the Keys.

Amy Cao, managing partner, called the opening of the new store a milestone to celebrate. “Our dream has always been to share the flavors of our culture with as many communities as possible,” she told the Miami Herald.

And he added: “Now, being able to serve the people of Key Largo and welcome visitors from around the world is a milestone we are very proud of.”

According to the Miami Herald, in addition to offering bakery service, the new location will offer the brand’s first full-service bar. The idea is that, in addition to enjoying sweet bites and sandwiches, customers can try classic Latin drinks like a piña colada.

In the official statement, the company announced that it plans to reach 100 stores across the United States by 2030.

“This isn’t just about expansion, but about building on a legacy. We want to grow with purpose, preserve what makes us special, and bring the Vicky’s experience to more communities than ever before,” said CEO George Barriere.

More than 50 years of Cuban delicacies in the United States
Vicky Bakery was born more than 50 years ago with a Cuban family recipe from founders Antonio and Gelasia Cao. The couple fell in love while working at La Vencedora, Cuba’s most famous bakery at the time, according to the brand’s official website.

The Caos married and immigrated to the United States as political exiles. Once in Miami, they began working, and when they had saved enough, they bought a small bakery in Hialeah in 1972. This would become the first Vicky Bakery location.

“I started making cakes here like I did in Cuba, and they’ve been incredibly successful,” says Antonio. The brand assures that the recipe hasn’t changed to this day.

Today, despite the passing of decades, the brand remains a family business. It is in the hands of Antonio and Gelasia’s children, who have managed to expand to 30 locations and are looking to continue their conquest throughout the United States.
