Uruguay and Cape Verde drew 2-2 this Sunday in the second match of Group H at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in a game where the African team went toe-to-toe with La Celeste in Miami.
The Uruguayans thought they had done the hard part after coming back from Cape Verde’s opening goal, a great free kick by Kevin Pina (21′), with goals from Maxi Araújo (44′) and Agustín Canobbio (45+6′).
But a goal by winger Hélio Varela (61′) after a mistake by the defense and Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, allows the Cape Verdeans to continue dreaming of advancing to the second round in their World Cup debut.
