Inter Miami defeated Real Salt Lake 2-0 at America First Field in Utah, securing their second consecutive victory under interim manager Guillermo Hoyos. The starting lineup featured Argentinians Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, Gonzalo Luján, Facundo Mura, and Tadeo Allende.
With this win in the ninth week of the MLS season, the team led by the Argentine captain extended their unbeaten streak to eight matches and remains in pursuit of the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
The game only opened up in the final stages of the second half. In the 36th minute of the second half, De Paul broke the deadlock with a right-footed shot from outside the box that nestled into the top corner of the goal defended by Rafael Cabral.
Just two minutes later, Uruguayan Luis Suárez sealed the result after an assist from Mexican Germán Berterame, making it 2-0.
The game had been evenly matched until the appearance of Inter Miami’s international stars. Early in the match, VAR intervened to disallow a Real Salt Lake goal for offside against Sergi Solans.
With this result, Inter Miami has 18 points and sits in second place behind Nashville SC, the leader of their group. The Miami team will return to action this Saturday when they host the New England Revolution at Nu Stadium.
