Jonathan González, 45, was taken into custody this Sunday in northwest Miami-Dade by federal agents, following a prior arrest for impersonating an officer from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The law enforcement operation was documented in a video showing several agents wearing badges and tactical gear.
Since being accused of threatening a food truck worker with a weapon, González has faced charges that include impersonating a federal agent. Reports indicate the incident occurred in early July, when he allegedly threatened the victim to intimidate him and secure benefits in exchange for protection.
Luis Rodríguez, the owner of the affected business, described how González presented himself as a high-ranking ICE official. “He started sharing information about his alleged ties to immigration authorities,” Rodríguez stated. During one interaction, González led him to believe he had information about an operation targeting the business, making it clear he expected something in return for protection.
“He made sure to look me in the eye and say, ‘I’m fond of you guys, I want to help, but if you help me, I’ll help you,'” the business owner recounted. After preventing González from returning, Rodríguez decided to report the incident to authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Rodríguez expressed concern that this type of intimidation might have been used against other businesses, particularly those run by immigrants. “It’s frustrating to think about how many others might have fallen for the same scheme,” he concluded.
As of now, there has been no response from the U.S. Attorney’s Office regarding the status of the case.
