Inter Miami confirmed this Thursday that Cristian “Kily” González will be the new head coach of the team, which boasts Lionel Messi among its star players.
The Florida club announced that the Argentine coach will replace Guillermo Hoyos, who had been serving as interim manager. According to the official statement, González will assume the role once he completes the necessary paperwork to obtain his work permit.
The appointment marks the first experience for the former Platense, Rosario Central, and Unión coach leading a team outside of Argentina. According to the club, his arrival comes at a time when the institution is looking to get back on track after failing to achieve some of its objectives for the season. The announcement did not specify a timeline for the new coach’s start date.
Guillermo Hoyos was in charge of the squad as interim coach and managed his first 17 matches in that role. During that period, the team achieved nine wins, three draws, and five losses, according to the released statistics. During that period, Inter Miami was eliminated from the Leagues Cup, one of the competitions they were participating in.
The club highlighted Hoyos’ work and publicly thanked him through its official channels. The message emphasized his commitment and willingness to take charge of the team during a transitional phase. With the departure of the interim manager and the arrival of González, the club begins a new coaching career amidst the sporting demands imposed by Messi’s presence on the roster.
