OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney brought one of Miami’s most publicized violent crime cases to a close with a guilty plea that avoided a murder trial. The influencer pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, and was sentenced to six years in prison, a far lesser sentence than the 30 years she could have received if convicted of second-degree murder.
The plea agreement was reached Monday in a Miami court with the support of Obumseli’s family. Obumseli was stabbed to death in April 2022 in the apartment he shared with Clenney in Edgewater, Florida. The prosecution argued that his death was the culmination of a relationship marked by an escalating pattern of violence; the defense maintained that Clenney was the victim of an abusive relationship and acted in self-defense.
The case went through more than four years of legal battles, cross-accusations, and a parallel process involving Clenney’s parents. It was also marked by the enormous public interest generated by the defendant, known on social media as Courtney Tailor, who had more than two million Instagram followers when she was arrested.
The prosecution maintained that there was a pattern of escalating violence.
In a statement released after the hearing, Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle stated that the agreement was reached “in full consultation with and with the approval of Christian’s family.” She added, “With this plea agreement, Christian Obumseli’s family finally heard what they so desperately wanted: that Courtney Clenney would take full responsibility for his death.”
The prosecutor also maintained that the assistants in charge of the case focused on “the critical evidence that Clenney stabbed her boyfriend as part of a pattern of escalating violence against him.”
In that same statement, he expressed his hope that the guilty plea would bring the family “a measure of justice” after a long wait.
The Miami-Dade County District Attorney’s Office presented Obumseli as a victim of domestic violence and described the relationship as particularly troubled. According to NBC6, prosecutors supported this version with evidence of previous assaults by Clenney against Obumseli, including recordings obtained by the network in 2022 and 2024.
The defense argued the opposite: that Clenney was the victim of an abusive relationship and that she stabbed her partner in self-defense.
On the night of the incident, Clenney called 911 after stabbing Obumseli. Attorney Frank Prieto told Rolling Stone magazine in May 2022 that his client tried to revive him and ended up covered in his blood: “She tried to administer first aid as best she could; she called 911. She was covered in his blood while trying to save his life.”
Prieto then stated that he accompanied Clenney to the police station and that she voluntarily gave a statement to the officers. According to his account, during that interview she said something that led the police to believe she might harm herself, after which she was admitted to a hospital and discharged less than 48 hours later. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner determined that Obumseli’s death was a homicide.
